Are you an experienced Production Roaster looking for a new opportunity? Or someone with a passion for specialty coffee looking to kickstart a new career in roasting?

We have an exciting new opportunity to join our Roasting team at our roastery in E16.

So, whether you are an experienced roaster or just starting out, we would love to hear from you. We are always open to applications from other coffee professionals as a bespoke training programme can be provided. What’s important is that you share our values, passion and commitment to helping the world discover the joy of specialty, sustainably sourced, coffee.

What you’ll be doing:

You’ll be hands-on with top-tier roasting equipment (Probat and Loring), crafting specialty coffee that meets the highest standards. From prepping green beans to delivering perfectly roasted batches, you’ll play a key role in bringing the best brews to life. You’ll collaborate closely with the Head Roaster and Quality team, ensuring every roast is consistent, sustainable, and delicious.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Roasting specialty coffee using Probat and/or Loring machines, following detailed roast profiles and recipes provided by our Quality Control team to ensure consistency and flavour excellence • Preparing and managing green coffee, including unloading, weighing, and feeding beans into the roaster while carrying out essential pre-operational checks and documentation • Collaborating daily with the Head Roaster and wider production team to deliver on the roast schedule and fulfil customer orders efficiently and on time • Monitoring roasting performance in real-time, making adjustments within defined parameters and logging data accurately using Cropster and other internal systems • Supporting quality assurance by pulling roast samples, participating in cuppings, and identifying any issues with green or roasted coffee quality • Championing food safety and BRC standards, keeping documentation up to date and contributing to internal and external audits • Promoting sustainability by minimising waste, supporting recycling efforts, and adhering to environmental management procedures • Being part of a learning culture – staying curious, sharing knowledge, and taking part in training (including SCA) and continuous improvement initiatives

You’ll be:

• A skilled and motivated coffee professional passionate about precision and quality. Ideally, you’ll bring experience in specialty coffee roasting and a solid understanding of the tools of the trade – including Probat 120 and Loring 70 + 35 machines – but this isn’t essential as complete training can be provided • Familiar with Cropster and have a background in SCA education or Q Grading – though again, not essential.

You’ll thrive in this role if you’re:

• Confident working independently and managing your time effectively in a fast-paced production environment • Detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and committed to high food safety and quality standards (BRC/HACCP knowledge desirable) • Physically fit and ready for a hands-on role that involves lifting, moving, and staying active throughout the day • A strong team player who’s eager to learn, contribute ideas, and help drive continuous improvement • Bonus points if you have experience in FMCG environments or are familiar with ISO 14001 standards – but we’ll provide training if not.

In return, we offer:

• A vibrant, coffee-loving workplace where you’ll be empowered to grow, innovate, and make a real impact — from bean to cup. • The chance to be an active part of Union’s success in spreading the love of specialty coffee • Lots of holiday – with 25 days of holiday plus the usual bank holidays • Fantastic support for parents - enhanced family/dependant leave and pay allowances • Support for your future – access to our workplace pension scheme from day one • Support with travel – access to our Cycle to Work Scheme / Electric Car Scheme • Free breakfast – and endless great coffee to drink at work • Staff discounts - and free sample coffees to take home! • Time to give and support our communities, with paid time off for volunteering

We are an equal opportunities employer and believe that diversity is a strength. We care about creating a diverse and inclusive team and welcome people from all backgrounds, with different perspectives, ideas and experiences to work with us. In our team, everyone can give their opinion, grow in their career and be part of a genuinely caring and inclusive team.

If you think you like the sound of this role and fit the description, we’d love to hear from you.
