We’re looking for someone to manage, drive and work our coffee van.

Set up in 2018, our van is equipped with the exact same equipment as our three shops; consisting of a three-group gravimetric Black Eagle, two Mahlkonig GBW grinders and a Puqpress. Our aim was simply to be able to turn up anywhere and serve coffee to the high standards we uphold across the business, in a self-sufficient van running with an internal generator and its own water supply. We currently just do two food markets; Brockley Market on Saturdays and Victoria Park Market on Sundays, totalling 30kg of coffee over a busy two days. With the exception of very rainy days, we run the markets with 4-5 baristas to enable a quick and efficient service, with no compromise to friendly customer service and allowing staff to take quick breaks and get food and produce. While full coffee training can be provided, we would hope for someone with some experience in a similar speciality-focussed cafe or mobile coffee setup. Some good hospitality experience is essential however, as is quick thinking, problem solving and having a practical hand with basic tools and maintenance.

The role currently totals around 24 hours per week: Saturday 0730–1630 Sunday 0730–1730 +1 weekday for a few hours to clean down and set back up for the next weekend.

More hours are available for the right candidate as there is potential for taking the van elsewhere during the week, or helping with stock and logistics throughout the company, or barista shifts in any of the three shops. Some staff management will be involved; finding and training new people, organising the rotas, covering late or sick people last minute, or making the decision to take someone off the list if they’re not up to standard. Adherence to Health & Safety and Food Safety guidelines is a must, with managers requiring recent certification. We can provide courses if necessary.

Pay ranges from £20-£24 depending on experience; if you can make coffee with good latte art, manage staff, lift a 22kg canister of waste water and work out what’s tripping the power at 11am on a busy shift, you’re on £24!

Key requirements -

• A full, valid UK driving license of at least three years, plus good road experience preferably in London

• Trained barista & strong interest in speciality coffee;

• Located somewhere near to SE23 for early weekend starts and to come for just a few hours in the week;

• The highest hygiene standards (ideally obtained Food Safety level 2 certificate);

• Available to work most weekends of the year (we will cover some time off once booked, we just need a good amount of notice);

• A management style that gets the most out of people and fosters staff retention;

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

• Always positive with an attitude for problem-solving

Application information: Please send a relevant CV, but more importantly, a cover letter explaining why you’d be the ideal candidate for the job. Applications without a cover letter will be disregarded.
